As far as I remember, Qualiflyer was fairly cautious about letting people overdraw. I think you could only overdraw by <= the amount you were about to earn with a paid ticket.
e.g. Overdrawing by say 10,000 would be permitted if you were about to fly to (say) LAX (earns approx 12000-14000 odd miles in Y from Europe) and upgrade or buy a free / companion ticket.
Thus in most situations the paying back / membership cancellation problem solves itself.
As far as "falling" from the dizzy heights of TCGold is concerned, there are no cases of this yet as those who qualified in 2000 for membership from March(?)2001 had (a) membership until March 2003 anyway, which has now been extended to March 2004 (transition Swissair - Qualiflyer - SWISS TC) even without flying activity. I would assume that, as per most other schemes, when you drop from the top ("democratically achievable level") you fall to the intermediate one for a year before ending up with basic membership once again. We'll have to wait and see what really happens during 2003, the first real requalification period for quite some time...
