Turns out you haven't had to see the TA for companion upgrades since late last year. Traveling over Christmas, the TA looked at me like I had 3 heads when I told him I thought I was supposed to see a TA to checkin the upgraded companion. Next trip in February I OLCI'ed no problem with a companion upgrade.
