IAD-SAN burns 5 and while the equipment isn't that great (320s mostly), I've been 7 for 7 with upgrades over the past year. Usually you can upgrade the day of the flight! Are there no elites in SAN?
There's a few of us, but not so many that upgrades are too hard to get. I can't think of the last time I flew in Y ex-SAN, especially since I seek out the '57s. But then again I usually take the EMB to LAX and grab a 3-class widebody.
