I found this to be true on Boxing Day evening in London. Complicated by the lack of open restaurants, and feeling a bit stir crazy, I discovered the recommended pub quite full of other hotel guests. And we all had a good time.
Staying in the same hotel supports a terrific relationship with the Concierge staff. I usually bring them some local treats, once salt water taffy and then once Girl Scout TMhin ints. This Christmas I gave the head porters Christmas ties. I will take ties to the rest of the staff this year. Additionally, I always travel with my personal stationery and write a thank you note on departure.
That's just one of the pleasures and benefits of staying at a smaller hotel.
