Direct flights, status and elite bonus
I know someone who was about to lose NW silver status, flew LAX-NRT-HKG on 2/28-3/01, and got 3624 bonus miles (50% of LAX-HKG). Had there been a flight number change, the 3/01 NRT-HKG segment would not have generated bonus miles.
