I never really understand why people travelling together have to inconvenience other passengers just so they can sit together for a few hours. There is no rule that says people who know each other must sit together!
There are many reasons, but I don't think any of them are relevant. I don't care why a couple wants to sit together. I'll do my best to accomodate the request as long as I am not significantly inconvenienced.
