No it is no longer workable - there was a response in the original thread you refer to. The bmi web site has a whole page on partner lounges: http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/freq...erlounges.aspx
Basically Silver will only get you into a few UK and Spanish lounges apart from bmi's own ones.
