My advance apologies if this needs to go to OMNI-land; I figured I'd start here given the focus on the TSA and DHS in this forum.
Basically, the group TRAC (Transactional Records Action Clearinghouse) analyzed DHS filings in immigration courts and found that only 0.0015% of cases have anything to do with terrorism, and only 0.014% have to do with "national security violations."

According to the report by TRAC, which is affiliated with Syracuse University, the results show that there is an "apparent gap between DHS rhetoric about its role in fighting terrorism and what it actually has been doing."
DHS spokesman Russ Knocke called the TRAC report "ill-conceived" and said the group "lacked a grasp of the DHS mission."
I suspect very few people at DHS themselves have a "grasp" of their mission.
