This 2 hour "rule" has never been a problem in my experiences in ATL. Whenever I fly from ATL I am going international, either directly to FRA on LH or int'l through PHL on US, and I never check in more than an
1hr 15min before departure...and I have never had my bags delayed.
I personally prefer US to DL out of ATL since the lines are short, and upgrades are plentiful.
