I was once on an EMB120, SAN-LAX and the gregarious Australian man and his wife were in 9CD. The FA asked if they would be willing and able to help in the event of an emergency.

He responded enthusiastically "Yes!! Looking forward to it!!"

Fortunately, this was pre-9/11
