It's supposed to be 100% positive name match between your boarding pass and your ID. One of my family members have been turned away from the security checkpoint before because her name was spelled wrong. Had to go back to the DL frontline agent to get it fixed.
But, that doesn't preclude one from flying
without an ID. You'd just be subject to extra haraSSSSment. Of course, letting you fly without an ID is at the airline's discretion, so you take a risk by doing so.
