European Union regulators promised a quick review Thursday of Belgium's offer to lend troubled airline Sabena $114 million to stay in the air, as competitors raised objections to the plan.
Belgium's flag carrier filed for bankruptcy protection on Wednesday, a day after its co-owner, Swissair, took a similar step.
The loan must be cleared by the European Commission, which enforces strict EU rules governing state aid to ailing companies. A decision is expected as early as Friday.
