Troubled Belgian airline Sabena today announced major job losses and cuts in long haul services in an attempt to stem losses.

The restructuring plan was described by Sabena President Christoph Muller as "drastic and urgent."

New measures will see the end of service on loss making routes from Brussels to Newark, NJ and Johannesburg, South Africa. The airline is also looking to shed between 400 and 500 jobs.
