Due to the bad economical situation of the Airbus company Finnair was able to negotiate quite a good price for those A340/330s. In the news it was said that they'll gain good profit for even selling those options in case they'll not buy all the A340/330s they made the deal for.

About B777 it's also bit old technology and the price is also quite high related to the Airbus alternative and the queue for the B787 was also too long.

Check the latest cabin pix from the A340.

As for the IFE there is a Panasonics eX2-entertainment system which has 20 movie channel (AVOD) and numerous TV- and audio channels. There is also 20 cds available and USB for iPods etc. (in Y too).

The new planes will fly to Tokyo, Nagoya and Shanghai - whereas the old A340 will go the Mumbai route. Latest A340 arrived just few days ago.
Yes, it's a shame that Finnair had to get the A340s. I don't think they wanted to... I hope the reduced price made up for the extra fuel it burns..

Don't get me wrong, the A340 is a modern plane, but the need for 4 engines is not there anymore. The 330 is a much better plane and it's still selling. The problem is the range of the A330-300, the 330-200 has range, but it's too small for Finnair

The 777 is NOT old technology, it's still selling like hot cakes and is the most economical plane in it's size. Boeing will be selling the 777 for years. Finnair didn't buy it because it's too big for them.
