Just a small but possibly and potentially important note of caution for anyone relying on the included standard Amex Platinum travel insurance for their only source of travel health / medical cover.

It is good cover as long as you can absolutely say that you have absoulutely no pre-existing conditions of any type and are not taking or have taken any type of medication. The standard offering precludes cover for anything you might reasonably know about as an existing condition or which might have been treated before. If you have anything that could loosely be used in future as an excuse to decline cover you might be best taking a policy where you can declare all pre-existing and previous conditions which can be noted on the policy, and for which an extra premium will probably be chargeable.

I say this because recently I had a friend who was declined cover at the point of a claim because of medication he had taken in the past, and had long forgotten about. A quick round robin of friends at the time showed that there wasn't a single person that didn't have something "declarable" but who had all thought before that they were a completely clean risk.

It's pointless having a false sense of reassurance if it can be easily avoided.
