I received a $400 discount travel voucher for various inconveniences and indignities suffered during my last trip on UA and have the following questions -

1). The certificate states that I have to use the discount for domestic flights and to Canada only. However, I only fly UA internationally from the US to Asia for business. Is there any way to get around this restriction? I would love to use it for booking my next trip to NRT but...

2). If the answer to the above is no, can I transfer the certificate to someone else without having to get involved with the ticketing or presentation of the certificate myself? The conditions state that if I am purchasing a ticket for someone else using the cert, I must present it in person to the ticketing representative or I must call United to redeem the cert. I want to give it to a family member but I don't want to get involved with calling UA ticketing. Any suggestions?
