I was calling Amex to see how much I can spend when I go on a long trip coming up and he asked all of the cities I will be going to and the dates I will be there. It's all domestic.

He said that usually the card would be declined if it was used at various cities and he noted my travel plans in my account. Is this really necessary? Has anyone ever been denied when traveling domestic?
