Marmite in Maadi? Was that in the days when Sainsburys was in town (Carrefour is the major player these days), because that is absolutely one thing I do not see on the shelves here?

Mind you, since first coming to work in Egypt 23 years ago things have dramatically changed for the better. Among items available locally and currently in residence in my kitchen are John West Kipper Fillets, Irish Mature Cheddar Cheese, and HP Sauce. Marmite still has to come from the UK.

If only they could get their act together on the local wine (the beer is OK) life would be grand. Still, at least as recently posted elsewhere, Viagra is available across the counter.
