Given in a fully loaded 747 with almost 400 seats each pax has just 5 kgs above the limit, thats 2 tonnes

Not really, there are airports which are strict with hand carry, both # of pieces and weight. (In SIN, I actually saw, they have a weighing machine, to make make sure you don't go over-weight!!!)
