There should be absolutely no redemption fee. It sounds like the fee they charged you is, in reality, the reimbursement from Marriott Rewards to the property for providing you the reward night. I would call the property and/or Marriott Rewards. Perhaps Chris can respond to this.

A call to the Marriott Rewards folks didn't shed much light.They told me its not their job to investigate or set up an inquiry.Go call yourself and deal directly with the property........sigh
