From my experience you can get a saver award on the KS (PenAir) flights between ANC and AKN, combining it with any connecting AS flights at the same levels. For example last summer I flew JNU-ANC-AKN-ANC-JNU, with only ANC-AKN on KS, for 20K AS miles.

If you are traveling solely on KS, then I think the saver award level is 15,000 miles.

KS does not fly to BRW, though. It's either AS or Frontier Flying Service (not to be confused with F9). Stops in Fairbanks, Barter Is., Deadhorse, and Nuiqsut.
I'm jealous of all of you. I just got talked OUT of an AK trip ({cruisetour) for this June, we're going to Glacier (the lower 48 one) instead. How bout taking a tour to Barrow? I hear the tour with hotel and meals can be cheaper than 1 way air (assuming you cant find a saver award)..

Any advice for a novice on Northern lights? My trip is likely August - summer, tourist season, and I hear light pretty much all the time.... Can I see 'em if I make it all the way north, or do I need to come back in winter when its darker?
