While you are right at that at that time the only listed ones were inter-island, the mainland-Hawaii partner awards on AQ were in fact available even then. I did two of them a couple of years before the date of that thread. Their availability at that time was never posted on UA afair.

I actually have raised the question more than once in the past (that was just the first thread search brought up) about whether UA would include a flight to the AQ gateway for mainland-Hawaii travel. If so, it would open up Hawaii award redemption options.

Be interesting for someone to try to claim an AQ partner award for, say, HNL-OGG-HNL, and then ask for a UA flight to the HNL "gateway"
