I'll second Kota Kinabalu and Bali. Could be a nice combination of places for a couple of weeks away. Plenty to do around Kota Kinabalu and it is a good day trip, or overnight visit to Sandakan if a visit to the Sepilok orangutan sanctuary is of interest.

Bali is great. Very friendly people, great Starwood hotels and plenty to do on the island.
