Stick to your PS flights. You will probably have a nice view of the coast as you fly from SFO to LAX, so the flight passes quickly. Don't even think about going through IAD. The fact that you have to take a Mesa flight from IAD - JFK just makes that a really bad idea. You would also have to transfer in IAD from terminal C or D to terminal A. PS is the better way to go.
