Except that wasn't the LHR-SVO service, but I assume the LHR-NRT service, which the Russian forced to stop off en route, for extra landing fees.
At that time you could take various long-haul flights on a 747 in J or F to SVO: on BA, VS, JL from AMS, NH or AF from CDG.
That was before SVO became a purely short-haul destination and we all got scrunched into tatty 757s and 767s. And years later, nothing much has changed.
