Thanks, now it makes sense.
With so many cheap options from BKK or SIN to Europe, the cost is likely to be less for BKK to MXP, or FRA or wherever, than for MEL to BKK.

No, happy with NZ because I rely on upgrades from PE to BP when flying to the US. BP is so expensive to the US, I guess because of limited competition.
