UA dumps ORD-LGA passengers in PHL ... no rebook!

Yesterday I was on flight 682 from ORD to LGA - due to a bad storm we couldn't land in LGA after circling for an hour, so they put the plane down in PHL hoping to refuel and try again.

Well they really tried to get us back. Lightning kept forcing the ground crew off the tarmac so it took a while to refuel but they did. After a few hours of sitting on the plane, getting off the plane, getting on the plane, trying to get clearance to land at LGA, we learned that some of the flight crew had hit their 14 hour limit and couldn't go back to LGA.

At that point they gave up, went back to the gate, and unloaded the almost-full flight around 9pm (original landing time was something like 4:30pm). Only to inform us that ... we were on our own! No hotels provided, no rebooking on morning flights, nothing. Good luck getting from Philly to New York.

In 30+ years of flying I have never seen an airline abandon an entire plane full of people to their own devices. I called this AM to inquire about reimbursement of expenses (most people took the train home) and was told that because I am a Premier member they would give me a $150 travel cert but no refund.

That is more than I paid in expenses so I didn't argue. Thought others might like to know though!
