You can now see the available seats for AC flights before actually purchasing a ticket! Select the flight(s) / fare combination you want, and a link appears for each flight to preview seat availability. (By selecting a Latitude fare, all seats available to E/SE are visible; Tango / Tango Plus only shows the back of the bus.)
Finally they've put something useful in place that has been missing for a long time!

2) I'd guess they only did this because their research showed that some % of passsengers were not willing to pay 15$ for a seat without getting to look at a seat map.
