Unless you want to ensure travel is in "coach" and are not prepared to pay $200 for the upgrade for 5 hours, I would get an AA account opened and put an upgrade request in. ( flight distance is 2475 miles , so requires 5 upgrade credits at $40 each ).
Just out of curiosity, how many AA miles does an upgrade credit cost? I have 6600 AA miles in my account and have never credited a flight to it! Just from surveys, promos etc. Just want to see if it is worth putting a few more points into the account.
