Had that happen at C9 at ORD today, which has a tiny gate area due to the shuttle to the F concourse. People lined up on the red carpet 20 minutes in advance, headed by a 1K with his four kids and wife in Y. I am usually at the gate when boarding starts, but lining up on the red carpet and "trapping" yourself seems really tacky.
