I see what you're saying....I've just never used the Amtrak trick, but I'm assuming it isn't available or working at the same rates anymore because people were using amtrak to shift miles around too much and the airlines didn't like it.
Not to be negative towards your goal, but it does seem that no airlines would really want you to shift points around too freely, since orphan miles are a nice way to encourage them to expire and take them off the books.
