But I'm thinking this situation is a little different. The OP requested double beds. The reservation states none available. Now here is where the issue comes in. The reservation should state "double beds requested, not available." If that is the case, then the guarantee should kick in. The issue is that when the reservation was made, the OP was Gold, so no over-ride was made. Now the OP has made Plat. Marriott's reservation system should now recognize that fact and update the reservation accordingly. (Actually, per my experience it won't, but the hotel will see the request and change the room accordingly at checkin.) Personally, I thought it was nice that the OP actually tried to notify Marriott of the elite level change. One shouldn't have to do that, but it can certainly help especially if the purpose is to actually get the requested bed type and not try to game the system.
OK so what happens is someway a person makes a res and wants doubles but none are available and at the time of the res are not a Plat. So they still make the res and the res is for a different type of bedding but since they have Doubles in their profile it will make the res for them and duly note that Your perferred bed type is not available.
Then one becomes a Plat and due to that automatically the hotel will now have to make aDouble room available or pay them the $100? Although at the time of the res they werent a Plat. Even though they Never had a res for a Double room, simply cause its in their profile.
Maybe its Me, but I would think that the Only time it would kick in is if in fact I was able to reserve the exact type of beds that were also in my profile, and adding a request for that type or a res acknowledging that my profiled type is not available wouldnt be enough
