If their system still shows that you are Gold, that isn't your problem, but theirs. Marriott should make sure its system updates people's elite status as they change. As long as you can show that you are infact a Plat, then they have to give you your room type or pay you the guarantee benefit.
If a res was made when the OP wasnt a Plat Id think that a Plats Guarantees wouldnt be in place unless the res was changed to reflect a change in status before hand.
That said since it seems that the OP wasnt able to get doubles to begin with then being a Plat wont help. all being aPlat would help is if the OP was able to reserve Doubles and got there and was told sorry none are available.
a Plat isnt Guaranteed to get the type of bedding they want if they arent able to reserve it at the time of making the booking.
I thought the OP thought that once they became Plat then if Doubles are their preference on their profile then the CC must come up with Doubles, even thou the OP wasnt able to reserve Doubles when they made the booking but booked say a King. Being a Plat wont get them the bed type or any $$ for not getting their preferred bed type since they Never resevred that type to begin with.
