I have a feeling that the people who would read a "read me first" thread are the ones who already follow the Flyertalk recommendation to check existing threads before posting their questions...
I think that people who are unaware of how to use Flyertalk are more likely to click on a sticky thread if the title is descriptive of a task that they want to achieve. Titles which are not task specific (especially vague catch-all titles) actually have a negative impact on the usability of web sites. They lower the users' success rate at finding the information they want.
