The clubs offer them as a way to tide people over between flights, but are not meant as meal replacements. Thinking and expecting as much is just silly.
Asian destinations usually offer more extensive and substantial choices because the flights are longer, so people connecting are likely more hungry than your average domestic U.S. traveler who is only on board for 3 hours or so, but usually less.
Agree w/the above two posters that NW could do a MUCH better job in this area and that the last statement above is not only inaccurate but not on point.
I couldn't care less if people are eating outside food in the WC, and think NW should allow it. Focus more on cracking down on unruly/loud guests/kids, etc., than on food (quiet, doesn't disturb others).
Airlines aren't meant to be restaurants either yet you're allowed to bring outside F&B on there as well (not alcoholic, obviously). I find it much more annoying (though not at all truly bothersome) when the passenger next to me is muching down a nice Wolfgang Puck salad or something, where I'm captive/close proximity/can't go help myself, than a pax across the WC eating something that I could easily go and get (or move if it was bothering me).
