Other airlines tend to compete out of CHI as well. NW, for example, is usually very competitive out of CHI to many international destinations. Depending on which direction you're flying (east vs. west), you can usually backtrack (fly initially in the "opposite direction") through MSP on your way to Europe or through DTW on your way to Asia, among other things.
