I also just had the misfortune to have the 330 MEL-PER. It is a deeply annoying aircraft for a couple of reasons:

1. The overhead luggage bins seem far smaller than those on 767s and 737s. I have a "legal" sized small wheelie, which I cannot get into a 330 overhead luggage bin. Grhh.

2. If you are at the rear of the J cabin it is hard to see the video screens. (Fortunately WP status means this rarely happens, but it has happened once or twice).

Just in relation to the complaint above re pre-assignment of seats, I must say that lately I have been rather grateful for the absence of pre-assignment as I have to book at short notice. Each time I have a had a great seat, completely in accordance with my preferences. I can understand why those who don't have status might get annoyed, but I must say as WP flyer, I am very grateful for the Qantas policy.
