Avis' cars are indeed inferior to some of what Hertz offers. I only stick with Avis because of service as a CHM. Still, even that has been a mixed bag lately, very much station-dependent.

I once showed up at a non-airport location, had a reservation at its opening time (figured I get the car more quickly by being there at 8am than by having them deliver the car to me). No one had shown up for work yet! Quick call to the CHM desk, 2 minutes later the district manager rang me on my cell and handled the situation, I can only imagine what happened to the employees that didn't show up for work ontime.
