Gold benefits except on Bank Holidays?

I flew on BD591 MAN-LHR at 1655 yesterday, Monday 7 May (after they called last week to say BD593 at 1910 was cancelled due to "commercial reasons" and the 1655 was the last flight of the day on the route).

Domestic check-in consisted of two adjacent staffed desks, one where the monitor read 'Business Class & Gold Card Holders' and the other 'Bag Drop'. However, there was one single-file queue (incidentally stretching out into the general corridor area, not in the zig-zag taped area).

There was a third member of staff asking people where they were going and if they hadn't already checked-in online or at the self-service terminal, she took their ID/reference and did the self-service for them, speedily hitting the 'right' answers to the security questions without actually asking the passenger the questions!

It took almost 15 minutes to drop my bag off!!! Is this the new "bmi time"?

When I queried why it wasn't possible to operate the 'Gold Card' queue, I was told the systems were going slow. Didn't see the correlation, but felt it was pointless to pursue.

On arrival in London, the "Priority" bags were nowhere to be seen "amongst the first to be delivered".... I counted 10 non-priority bags down the chute first, then a single priority bag, then loads of normal bags again before some more priority items appeared.

Is this typical, or was it a bank holiday service?
