As usual a good suggestion from ricktoronto. I have employed a slightly different strategy--a suitcase or duffel packed inside the suitcase on the outbound trip. If you are traveling very lightly, as you say, you may well be able pack a smaller suitcase in your suitcase, giving you an extra in Ireland. If you have a bit more weight, and, as you indicate, nothing breakable you want to bring back, add a duffel, a large bag or backpack. You might even be able to bring the latter back as a carry on.

I will say the 2 times my suitcase was opened for inspection and the person immediately had to open another, they were surprised. But also laughed.

Have a nice time in Ireland!
