FWIW, I did try a search. My question was primarily about being able to combine the records so that the companion upgrade machine would work. I couldn't find anything definitive on that.
One PNR with >1 person can be split into separate PNRs, but PNRs can't be combined into one. They can be 'linked', which will note that you are traveling together, but that won't get you the 5-day UG.
