I'm completely with you on this one. I've stopped flying BA on these long LCA routes for exactly the same reason. The value for money proposition has gone completely. I much prefer the competition even if it involves intermediate connections. At least I arrive without rattled nerves

The OP would also have gotten a cold plate on the MUC-LHR flight if on LH. But IME, LH's offer is of superior quantity and quality to BA's cold plate attempts. Of course food quality is highly subjective.
For me it's the 2x2 sitting that clinches it for LH and others. Makes the whole flying experience feel much more civilised.
