Yeah, I remember when In N Out first came to the SF Bay Area (Mtn View, right across from Costco, which was only about 10 min south on Hwy 101 from my mom's place in Palo Alto), I thought their burgers were just okay. I think the hype about In N Out is that their meat is better and that their french fries are fresh. Otherwise, I think there is nothing special about their taste: The only saving grace are their chocolate shakes. However, if you want a good shake, and are in or around Palo Alto, you can't beat The Peninsula Creamery for great tasting shakes.
