CIP = Commercially Important Passenger (not Person). Has very little benefit unless it comes with CL (all CL are automatically CIP). More's the pity. This is because it is a text field only and does not contribute to your ranking on the 'order by status' list that QF use to decide domestic seating, invol. u/g's etc. - this list is is ordered by status (CL, WP, SG etc) then surname (alphabetical order). However CIP flag might get noticed by an agent if you have a particularly bad seat assignment (e.g. late booking) then they will do something for you. Or if you make a special request, you will usually get it (my experience). It is relatively simple to get CIP from your corp. account manager (if you have one, and your corp account is $5m+)- QF are fairly tight with CL these days but often make up for it with liberal CIP. But is it worth it? In fact I have been told by CX agent that a WP/CIP might actually be at a disadvantage for manual invol. U/G and WL etc. as it makes CX think you were comped your status rather than earned it, plus they imagine you will be loyal to QF so not a priority customer for them!
