I would not worry. Sometimes I contact the hotel asking what RA upgrade I can expect, and always receive a response. Depending on the hotel, this may or may not be upgraded online. Often, people report that they received an upgrade on the upgrade already confirmed online.

While this may simply be a mistake a reception, it may also be a policy based on the principle of giving a better room if available at check in.
