I love window seats and love looking out the window. Even in the dark there are sometimes amazing things to be seen--the Northern Lights, other planes, lights on the ground. Why would anybody care if I open the shades at night. The one thing I have never seen at night is sunshine--well except in Alaska and that's just plain beautiful.

In the daytime, sometimes I just like to look at clouds and water and prefer to keep the window open. How could anybody find a goofy movie more interesting that a beautiful cloud formation, or a mountain, sunset/rise, or glacier?

I'm certainly willing to compromise. If there is nothing particularly interesting outside, I am happy to close the shade. If there is something exciting, wonderful or even just interesting to look at, that shade is staying open.

Once I have closed the shade, however, I am unable to resist occasional peeks.
