epigram, some very good responses thus far, even a link to a thread asking the same question. To make your decision whether to choose QF or not, I have summarised Qantas' Economy product features below:
Qantas Economy Class - Summary- 31" pitch & slimline seats
- Printed menus with a choice of meals
- Snack on Q packs (example here - contents may differ)
- Continual refreshments throughout the flight (supposed to be every 15mins)
- Hot bakery option with meals
- Hot Chocolate, Wine, Juice etc etc
- Audio Video on Demand (AVOD)* IFE system - See below for more information
- Inflight-SMS/Phone facility
- Amentiy Kit (should still include Qantas lanyard, toothbrush/paste, eye shades and socks)
Qantas AVOD Inflight Entertainment System - Overview
- 16cm screen,
- AVOD - start, pause, fast forward or stop (at your leisure) any of the program choices.
- 60 Movies
- 200 TV programs (including destination guides)
- 20 Radio (Q) channels
- 150 CDs
- 10 interactive games
- Travel progression guide (moving map)
* Qantas' AVOD system isn't the most reliable and is often plagued with problems (often requiring passengers to move to others seats to get a working PTV).
Can't be much help with regards to BA. Last time I flew them was in 1989 when I was a very young lad (2 y/o)
