I bet that would change faster than you could blink if:-
(a) Boeing decided to abandon GE-exclusivity on the variants and to invite R-R along to the party; and
(b) Trent-experienced airlines then started to show an interest in buying the new 777 variants, rather than the A340 variants which are their direct and currently more successful competitors.</font>
According to the email, it would be breach of contract for them to do so.
Boeing gave GE exclusivity because they supposedly didnt feel like Rolls could develop a
stable engine which generates more than 100,000lbs of sustained thrust (taking into consideration the massive problems experienced with the Trent892, and the fact that only two airlines have any experience with the Trent895).
The only thing is, this literally shot them in the foot, considering that many (if not most) of the all-important Asian carriers bend over backwards for RR... when it comes to their widebodies.
I suspect we'll see more 772LR/773ER orders in the future, but getting airlines such as SQ/TG/etc get over their GE-phobia for widebodies might not be the easiest task in the world....
