Price is going to be $1982 from the HP website. That is much less than a similarly configured machine from Sony, Alienware, Dell, Gateway, etc......
Might want to double check the Dell price. Admittedly I get a discount from them, but I thought it was only 12%. Just bought an 1405 with T7200 for USD 800 from Dell, admittedly not for gaming and 14 inch screen (which I
greatly prefer to Dell's 17 inch); I think with the video card and HD upgrade it would come to about USD 1200 and not USD 1900 that you seem to be thinking. Might pay to shop around, those prices seem to be for last year (they have dropped a lot in the past 3 months).
I have never been a big fan of Dell, but the Inspiron 1405 design is a real winner, superb and with very high quality components. I also have a T60, and it compares favourably to that (when you factor in that the price is a lot lower). Dells 15 and 17 inch laptops are not quite as good, and their XPS line is just grossly overpriced (and rather ironically with no better components than you on the current Inspirons).
