I feel better after reading what you all had to say. I also called AA again for a peace of mind. As bjtaylor said, one can't cancel a reservation without logging in the AAdvantage account. All this time, I was looking at my reservation from my account and I got all worried because all the options to change and cancel were available. But, knowing that cancelling a reservation requires one extra step of verification makes me feel much better.
So your reservation is likely secure; that's good.
How about your watch, the family jewels, whatever? How much personal info is available based on what is emailed? Your name and departure city for sure. So somebody else knows that somebody with that name near your departure city is going to be in china for a while? I'd be more worried about that. I wouldn't want a stranger to know I'm out of town for a few weeks...
